Unsteady-state CFD simulations on the impacts of urban geometry on outdoor thermal comfort within idealized building arrays

This study investigated outdoor thermal comfort within 5 × idealized building arrays on five consecutive days by conducting unsteady computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulations. The interacting effects of height topology, distance and layout airflow patterns, spatial distributions spatially averaged environment were evaluated UTCI (Universal Thermal Comfort Index). CitySim Pro was used to simulate the transient solar-induced temperatures walls buildings grounds inside arrays, which then set as boundary conditions in CFD results showed that influence wind patterns urban significant so steady simulations or one typical day might not provide a complete overview wind-thermal environment. also presenting average distribution could lead different conclusions impacts geometry comfort, especially impact distance.
